THE LEE CABIN
The largest cabin is the Lee, named for General Robert E. Lee, head of the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War and afterwards President of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia, renamed Washington and Lee University after General Lee’s death in 1870.
From the minute you enter the door of the Lee cabin, the view of the Blue Ridge through the French doors and huge picture windows will capture your attention. Once inside the cabin, the warm log interior and the historical prints and artifacts will capture your interest. An oil portrait of General Lee presides over the rock mantel along with other items of historical interest. Confederate and Union artifacts are displayed throughout the cabin.
The decor may be 1860s, but the amenities are all modern. From the Jacuzzi tub to the satellite TV to the fully equipped kitchen, you will enjoy all the modern comforts while immersing yourself in the past.
The living room has a gas log fireplace with remote, satellite TV with DVD/VCR, ceiling fan and sleep sofa. A large bar countertop with barstools connects the dining area to the bright and sunny kitchen. The Lee also boasts a stackable washer/dryer in the hallway closet next to the kitchen.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed with pillowtop mattress and layers of high quality bedding to coax you into the most restful night’s sleep you’ve had in a long time. The fresh mountain air will have you rested and relaxed for another day of sightseeing or just relaxing on your deck and enjoying the view.
Across the hall is a charming bath with Jacuzzi tub, warm pine walls and cabinets, rustic twig mirror, and antique sewing machine cabinet which holds towels and amenities.
The upstairs bedroom contains two luxurious twin beds with beautiful candlewick bedspreads and faux fur throws. The twin beds can be converted into a king bed upon request. Adjoining the bedroom is a cozy bath with bathtub/shower, rustic twig mirror, soft towels, bath soap, hand soap and hair dryer.
The open loft contains a day bed, which in its former life was a Civil War hospital bed. It has been updated with a new mattress, fluffy comforters and masses of pillows to make this a perfect spot to sleep, read or contemplate Mother Nature from the picture windows overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.
A perk reserved only for those who rent the Lee cabin is the use of the Tower Deck. Climb the outside staircase and from 35 feet about the ground you will have a 360 degree view of mountains and meadows that you will not soon forget. The tower is a wonderful place to view the sunrise or sunset, and have an alfresco meal or drinks.
